Packaging & Processing
More and more processed foods are being developed to provide added value and consumer convenience, or to be environmentally friendly. This usually means trending away from conventional packaging such as metal cans or glass jars and, instead, utilizing flexible or semi-rigid plastic, or plastic/paper laminates. This newer packaging comes in the form of flexible pouches; semi-rigid bowls and trays; or retortable
boxes such as the Tetra Recart?. The seals on this new packaging may be heat seals for pouches, trays and boxes, or conventionally double-seamed aluminium EZO ends on plastic bowls.
Use of this flexible and semi-rigid packaging requires the utilization of high technology, overpressure sterilization systems. IFT has expertise in the validation procedures for these new packages and processing systems.
